초록/요약
Pet loss syndrome refers to the symptoms such as depression experienced following the death of a beloved pet. As the number of small households and pet owners continues to increase, pet loss syndrome has emerged as a significant social issue. Various studies have proposed methods for addressing pet loss grief care. However, research exploring pet loss grief care within the context of new media remains insufficient, particularly within a trans-East Asian framework. This study aims to address this gap by examining three platforms from South Korea, China, and Japan that utilize new media to facilitate pet loss grief care. Specifically, this paper analyzes South Korea’s “Streetcat Papa,” China’s “Sichongbao,” and Japan’s “Dear Pet.” In Chapter 2, the analysis will focus on how Streetcat Papa’s animal donation platform incorporates the ritual of offering with practical social participation. Chapter 3 will investigate how Sichongbao’s online memorial hall enables ancestral rites free from temporal and spatial constraints. Chapter 4 will explore how Dear Pet’s pet loss archive generates narratives of sympathy and adaptation. Ultimately, this study identifies both the differences and similarities among these platforms and discusses howsociety can cure pet loss through new media in a humanistic manner.
