On the Narration of Fathering Sons in the Gay Fictions ― Centered on Bian Er Chai and Yichun Xiangzhi

초록/요약

For the past years, there have been impressive research achievements on the phenomenon of male homosexuality as well as gay fictions in ancient China, and admittedly, such research is both fruitful and profound. However, no special discussion on the issue of "gays and their sons" has been published. This paper, centered on Bian Er and Yichun Xiangzhi of the Ming dynasty, studies intensively the narration of fathering sons in the gay fictions. This phenomenon falls into 3 types: the involved males get married and have sons individually; the male, acting like a mother, educate the son to grown up established and well-known; the gods bestow the involved males male inheritors. Based on this, this paper analyzes the deep reasons why gay fictions attach importance to the narration of fathering sons from three aspects: the concept of sexual ethics in the patriarchal society; the empathy and sympathy for the attitude of indulging one's desire; finally, the longing for breeding male children.
