Knowledge of human papillomavirus and cervical cancer screening practice among Uzbekistan women

우즈베키스탄 여성에서의 인유두종바이러스 감염에 대한 지식과 자궁경부암 검진 행태

초록/요약

We aimed to assess the association between the knowledge and practice of cervical cancer screening among Uzbekistan women. A baseline survey was conducted for 445 women aged 2059 years who visited one of the three health centers of Tashkent, Uzbekistan in December 2020. A questionnaire on the knowledge of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical cancer screening practice was used. We analyzed the knowledge score which is defined as a sum of the number of correct answers for the knowledge questions and prevalence of cervical cancer screening practice. We calculated the adjusted relative risk (RR) of 1) never been screened, and 2) no screening within two years for each of demographic characteristics and low knowledge score (< median). The median knowledge score was 10. Women who had ever been screened for cervical cancer were 63.1%, and 64.8% of them reported that their last cervical cancer screening test was within 2 years. A history of sexually transmitted disease was associated with a lower risk of never been screened (adjusted RR = 0.43, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.24, 0.78) and no screening within two years (0.54, 95% CI: 0.30, 0.99). No university graduation was associated with higher risk of no screening within 2 years (1.57, 95% CI: 1.00, 2.47). Association between knowledge of HPV and screening practice was not observed. This study provides a context for the conception of effective cervical cancer prevention strategies.
