『삼한습유』의 인물 형상화 방식의 특징과 그 의미

이 글은 『삼한습유』가 향랑이라는 인물을 형상화하는 방식에 대해 고찰했다. 이를 통해 작가 김소행과 인물 향랑 사이의 관계를 설명하는 새로운 논리 체계를 설정하는 것을 목적으로 삼았다. 먼저 지작기 및 서․발문을 통해 김소행이 그린 향랑에 대한 문인들의 반응과 창작 당시의 상황을 재구해 보았다. 다음으로는 『삼한습유』가 향랑의 모순적 형상을 서사적으로 처리하는 방식을 살폈고, 마지막으로는 향랑의 모순적 형상이 출현하게 된 맥락에 대해 논했다. 그 결과 『삼한습유』는 유희적 상황 속에서 다양한 문학적 엉킴을 만들어 냈고, 그러한 문학적 관습의 엉킴이 만들어 낸 존재가 향랑임을 알 수 있었다. 향랑이라는 모순적이고 문제적인 인물이 우리 문학사에 출현할 수 있었던 이유는 그것이 진지한 고민으로부터 출발한 것이 아니라 유희의 상황이라는 기존 관념으로부터 다소 자유로울 수 있는 분위기에서 출발한 것이었기 때문이다. 그러므로 향랑의 형상으로부터 『삼한습유』와 그것을 창작한 김소행의 작가 의식을 고매한 것으로 평가하는 기존의 논의는 재고될 필요가 있었다.

초록/요약

This study examined the way that 『Samhansbyu』 embodied Hyang-rang. Through this, it was aimed at setting up a new logical system that explained the relationship between the writer Kim-Sohaeng and the character Hyang-rang. First, through preface and a postscript, I recounted the writers' reaction to the Hyang-rang drawn by Kim-Sohaeng and the situation at the time of creation. Next, 『Samhansbyu』 examined the way in which Hyang-rang's contradictory figure were handled in an epic way, and finally discussed the context in which Hyang-rang's contradictory figure appeared. As a result, 『Samhansbyu』 created various literary tangles in a playful situation, and it has led us that the tangle of such literary customs created the Hyang-rang. The reason why a contradictory and problematic character named Hyang-rang was able to appear in our literary history was that it did not start from serious thoughts but from an atmosphere somewhat free from the existing notion that it was a situation of amusement. Thus, existing discussions on evaluating 『Samhansbyu』 and Kim-Sohaeng's writer consciousness from the figure of Hyang-rang needed to be reconsidered.
