The purpose of this study is to apply LDA to obtain the topics of mathematics education based on the abstracts of the major mathematics education journals. Based on previous studies, the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education(JRME), Educational Studies in Mathematics(ESM), and the Journal of Mathematical Behavior(JMB) were considered as the well-fitted journals for our research purposes, and we collected abstracts from a total of 2,556 articles published in these journals from 1990 to 2018. The results represent the topics of those three journals for each 5-year period, and how those topics changed over time. Guidelines for future researchers who may wish to apply this method to other areas were suggested.
