The purpose of this study is to introduce the concept and process of photovoice, to review relevant research cases, and to discuss issues in photovoice applications for the sports-related research domain. Different types of photovoice procedures and questions were reviewed. We hope that this study enables other researchers to expand topics by understanding and applying a rather new method in the sports-related research field. To review previous literature, the keyword ‘photovoice’ was first searched and then narrowed into ‘sports’ ‘physical activity’ ‘leisure’ and ‘physical education’ on the database. With increasing emphasis on community-based participatory research, photovoice methods have been diversely used to embrace various groups including vulnerable social groups and minorities. In the field of sports, a number of recent studies have identified the participants’ perspectives and experiences of sport in specific contexts. This study suggests the possibilities of applying the photovoice methods for different expended topics, participants, domains and policies in the sports-related research.
