The boom of the collections happened from 1960’s to 1970’s andcountless the collection of world literature for children were publishedin this period. The collection of world literature for children wasproceeded various direction of forming the cannon through selectingand arranging works. The example is work which orphan characters area main character. this paper aims to analyse work which orphancharacters are a main character in order to study the process and thelogic of canonization which collection of world literature for children. in the 1960’s, orphan characters are much patience, pure and angelic inthe collection of world literature for children such as 『Sans Famille』,『A Little Princess』, 『Heidi』and 『A Dog of Flanders』. This reflectsthe ideology of adult about the image of the child. But in the 1970s,this tendency is a little different and orphan characters are diversifiedsuch as 『Oliver Twist』, 『Anne of Gables』and 『The Secret Garden』. These orphan characters are not beautiful looks, sometimes thesechildren are reality critical or wacky. In addition, there is a growingtendency that orphan characters are diversified in the late 1970s.
