Exosome Identification for Personalized Diagnosis and Therapy

Exosomes which are nano-sized vesicles secreted from cellto extracellular fluid have received an emerging interestbecause it has been believed that they have specializedfunction such as stimulating immune system and play a keyrole in many biological events including coagulation as wellas intracellular communication. Therefore, exosomes can beapplied as a diagnostic tool to discover the disease mechanismand moreover, by loading drugs in exosomes, we can expecta personalized therapy. Consequently, diverse studies toanalyze exosomes are being carried out. Isolation anddetection methods for exosomes are required to investigatethe process of exosomes and its subsequent functions. Sincethe size of exosome is below the detection limit ofconventional detection methods, there is a difficulty indetecting exosomes. Also, although lots of studies havefigured out detecting methods for exosomes, no standardmethod has been established yet. Here we show diversedetection methods which are practical for exosomes. We willintroduce studies those have succeeded in detecting exosomes. For those methods, brief information of the principle, thedetection limit and the kind of information, like morphology,structure, and biomarker for exosomes, will be offered. Also,for most of the cases, figure will show the screen of theinstrument which observer will see. The objective of thisreview is to give an overview of feasible methods for detectingexosomes.
