The purpose of the study was to examine the causal effects of organizational prestige, distinctiveness, and salience of outgroup on team identification. The literature from organizational identification suggested that the three variables were the antecedents of organizational identification. Thus, it was hypothesized that the three antecedents should influence team identification since team identification came from organizational identification and social identity theory. The causal relationships between the antecedents and team identification was hypothesized based on social identity theory and organizational identification. The data were collected from 232 college students who attended K university, which is known to be the historical rival against Y university in collegiate sports in Republic of Korea. Descriptive statistics were calculated with SPSS. The normality of the data was examined along with other assumptions of multiple regression analysis. The three independent variables showed statistically significant causal influence on team identification. The three independent variables explained 37.3% of the total variance of team identification.
