This research examines how cultural policy has been changed according to each regime of the South Korean government, and analyzes how those changes have affected the National Dance Company of Korea's performances since 1962. Art is the object of culture and the mediator of control which is reduced to the order of society and the symbolic systems. It mediates mental systems and social systems like a religion. As a field of art, dance performance emphasizes the social requirements and restrictions rather than pure motivation of the producer. The relationship between the creator and his/her own work is influenced by social structure and relations. As the government have supported the National Dance Company of Korea, it has supported National Gugak Center. National Dance Company of Korea is always under the influence of cultural policy of the government. The influence has been changed according to each regime of the government. This research analyzed the tendency of art works of the National Dance Company of Korea, in relation to cultural policy of each government. Conversely, by analyzing the changing trends of dance performances, the features of cultural policy can be found.
