The effects of complex treatment of weight training and core exercise on center of pressure, lumbar strength and pain control in middle-aged women with chronic lower back

초록/요약

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the weight exercise alone, core exercise alone and mixed(weight & core)exercise on Center of pressure(COP), isometric lumbar extension strength and visual analogue scale(VAS) in chronic low back pain patients. This study was to identify the difference among four groups. 28 subjects were divided into the following groups : control group(n=7), weight exercised group(n=7), core exercised group(n=7), and mixed exercised(n=7) group. Three groups were performed for 60 minutes per day and three times a week during 8 weeks period. At pre and post exercise, medx lumbar extension strength test, tetrax balance test and visual analogue scale(VAS) were conducted to subjects. The results were as follows; i) isometric lumbar extension strength was significantly increased among all gorups. But, tetrax balance test shows that COP was significantly different among groups. ii) only in mixed exercise group, tetrax balance test was significantly reduced after weight and core exercise. iii) in all gorups, visual analogue scale was significantly reduced. According to the results as presented above, the results showed statistically significant influence that mixed exercise on COP, VAS and Isometric lumbar extension strength. The results will serve as an important information when treating low back pain patients.
