A term "U.S. Imperialism" has been used for a long time by progressive camp in South Korea. But now it is difficult to recall imperialism in images of U.S. To tell the truth the term has long history enough to be fixed through theoretical discussions by leftwingers before the Korean War. Though the theory of U.S. imperialism was formed through detailed theoretical discussions, it didn't reflect only genuine facts. Images of U.S. were distorted and recomposed through prudent manipulations by the elite of North Korea. Diverse materials and implements were used for the formation of new images of U.S. Theoretical implements such as theory of Marxist economics and theory of imperialism and theory of fascism contributed to construction of new images of U.S. Those works of the elite of North Korea were connected with recognition that the failure of establishment of united government in Korea was due to disturbances of U.S. The establishment of a new view of U.S. with the revision of history of Korean-American relations influenced greatly to real politics beyond ideal field. Persons leading the construction of a point of view of U.S. were elite belonging to the North Korean Labor Party composed of politicians and theoreticians and intellectuals. Images of U.S. distorted and recomposed by their viewpoint were circulated through various media into all parts of North Korea. To peoples recalling U.S. from articles written by elite, it was only a hostile country lacking realities. Existence of a hostile country may be used efficiently in accomplishment of policies by the State. Therefore we can grasp certain intentions that the elite of North Korea recomposed images of U.S. Also we can understand origin of troubles between North Korea and U.S. through this study, along with historical backgrounds of extreme hostilities toward U.S. in North Korea.
