An Development of an Idea of Buddhist Holy Place

초록/요약

In this paper I studied the principles and concrete aspect of buddhist holy place. In two chapter, I explained śūnya(空) as the principles of buddhist holy place. The essential conception of Mahāyāna(大乘) buddhism is śūnya. The meaning of śūnya is not to attach anything and to take place a pure heart(淸淨心). In this way, when a man take place the pure heart, this world become holy place. And Won-hyo(元曉) explains this subject by four grades. While Mircea Eliade says dialectics of the sacred and the profane. This and śūnya are the same meaning in the idea of holy place. In three chapter, I divided the aspect of buddhist holy place to three kind. Firstly, all objet can become holy place but we can deny all holy place. Because an pure heart in buddhism is not to attach anything and it is not to attach buddha and buddha teaching. Secondly, the holy place of traditional religion can belong to buddhist holy place. For example seven temples in Silla periods are founded in the holy place of traditional religion. Thirdly, the buddhist holy place in India and China can exist in Korea. For example Avalokiteśvara(觀世音菩薩) lives in Nak-san(洛山) and Mañjuśrī(文殊菩薩) lives in O-dai-san(五臺山).
