The purpose of this article is to explore the Leisure Ability Model and critically analyze them in Korean culture. The practice models in therapeutic recreation have provided both philosophical and pragmatic orientations to advance both the theory and practice of the profession. Thus, practice models serve as a “road map” or blueprint for therapeutic recreation service delivery. A number of issues were used to guide the analysis as applied to the Leisure Ability Model. Through the last two decades, the centrality of the practice models in therapeutic recreation has been changed from a leisure oriented approach to a health oriented approach. Korean scholars and practitioners should consider adapting and modifying the Leisure Ability Model and design appropriate practices that contexualize Korean culture.
