A Morphophonological Study on Idiosyncratic Morphophonemic Syllable-binding Orthography of Korean Documents in the 15th Century

초록/요약

The aims of this paper are to classify the types of idiosyncratic morphophonemic syllable-binding orthographies of Korean documents in the 15th century and to give an explanation to them about their linguistic back grounds within the framework of morphophonology. We have classified the idiosyncratic morphophonemic syllable-binding orthographies of Korean documents in the 15th century into 6 types as follows: [1] the divided notation by 'k'-deletion, [2] divided notation in declension of special nouns, [3] the divided notation in the verbs with 'ɾʌ/ɾɨ' in the second syllable, [4] the divided notation in the verbs with 'zʌ/zɨ' in the second syllable, [5] divided notation in suffixes of the passive and the causative, [6] and other divided notation. The linguistic back grounds of these idiosyncratic morphophonemic syllable-binding orthographies of Korean documents in the 15th century are ⅰ) the morphological consideration to prevent distorting the original morph, and ⅱ) the morphophonological consideration for the trace of phonological change.
