The object of this thesis is studying arguments on tradition in 1950's at the point of view 'researching literal type'. In South Korea, 1950's was age of ruin and loss but in history of literacy, especially in history of critics, it was a period of searching national identity. And there were antagonism between national-oriented and world-oriented, peculiarity and universality. In political and social aspect, there was effort to search self-identity in ideological and emotional confusion. In this situation, South Korea's discussion on tradition was started at simple intellectual curiosity, 'our's' or 'something peculiar'. But it's specialized study was fulfilled with vague ideas on common temperament, emotion and taste etc. So, in spite of many debates, deep arguments were rare. The arguments of tradition must be restudied at the separated point of theme, awareness, world view and formal aspect of tone, rhythm and material. In this thesis, I will examine 1950's debate focused on 'theme'. people saying that "Chunhyang-geon",the best classics, is treasury of tradition. "Chunhyang-geon" is most important text covering not only national temperament but also literal theme and model of form. For example, It explain elegance, zest and heartburnings due to social status fetters through Chunhyang's life and describe phases of life by enumeration, word trick and humor etc. In 1950's, Subject analysis of "Chunhyang-geon" embossed 'resistance' as a tradition, which was related to the thoughts of the times, existentialism and engagement. The character of Chunhyang, interpreted as symbol of resistant people, and theme of "Chunhyang-geon" makes context to national literature which is linked to 60's engagement, civil literature and people literature. In this point, "resistance" as a analysing subject to "Chunhyang-geon" obtains significance.
