"The one deep strong love I have ever known" in The Mill on the Floss This essay intends to examine the source of Maggie's determination to return from her elopement with Stephen despite the society's contempt for her and to reconcile herself with her brother despite his rejection of her in The Mill on the Floss. First, the aspects of father-daughter relationship in the Victorian times has been examined and, according to that, the relationship between Mr Tulliver and Maggie has been examined on the basis of George Eliot's own relationship with her father. Maggie has kept "the one deep strong love In have ever known" for her father like Eliot herself. This essay focuses at the influence and power of this love on Maggie and her behaviour. This love has kept her strong and patient in the relationship with her family and relatives and others.
