초록/요약
A utopia is an imaginary space which a particular group or people consider to be ideal or perfect. Therefore, these can provide important clues with which to understand the world perception and the spatial awareness of the people who pursue such utopias. Based on this perception, this paper analyzed the various aspects and geographical characteristics of the utopias pursued by the people of Chosun. To attain the objectives of this paper, the types of utopias described in tales, novels, and prophetic books were analyzed. This research uncovered many similarities in terms of the process through which utopias were created, the natural environment such utopias possessed and how public life would unfold in these spaces. In this regards, this paper focused heavily on the geographical characteristics of the utopias created during the Chosun dynasty. The research found that the types of utopias pursued by Chosun people were those which involved spaces in which they could live a peaceful life free of war, starvation, and social chaos and self-sustaining communities whose members led egalitarian and harmonious lifestyles.
