In the present paper I have examined a variety of fantastic characteristics of Zhiguai [志怪] which was highly popular, in relation to Taoism, during the Weiqinnanbei period [魏晋南北朝].It was found that taoistic fantasy could lie on the obscurely defined border lines between time and space as well as between myself and others.I first attempted to systematically analyze the description of geographical and natural history [地理博物志], which is a particular form of Zhiguai [志怪], in order to eventually show breakdowns of borders distinguishing time-space and myself-others.The description of geographical and natural history [地理博物志] includes various strange and exotic things, mythical stories, and so on, which were collected from all over the world by Fangshi [方士]. Consequently, Zhiguai [志怪] provided, to readers, opportunities of traveling foreign places and experiencing strange cultures in an indirect sense.In addition, Zhiguai [志怪] having descriptions partly recast in the form of taoism ceremony allows us to experience fantasy world in which human beings are able to freely communicate with and in love with God.It is also interesting to note that numerous examples of metamorphosis and journey through the spiritual world are another fantastic character of Zhiguai [志怪], where taoistic mental exercises such as Zunsi [存思] and Shouyi [守一] were practiced.
