In order to measure educational success for the regions in Zimbabwe, SACMEQ collected Math and Reading test scores for the ten regions. Out of the ten three of them performed above the SACMEQ standards in both Math and Reading. This is because they get more resources than other regions as they are in urban areas and one of them is Harare which is the capital city and Bulawayo which is the second largest city. The location of the school is one the main contributor to the success of students. The study explains the factors that determine the achievements using standardized test scores of Reading and Math for sixth grade students. Student and household, teacher, class and school level variables were selected and used for the analysis. Regression analysis using OLS method was used on these variables. The study reveals that the student and household variable which is urban was the most significant and the more variables added the more its significance decreased in both subjects. Results show that all student and household variables were positively significant except student gender, age and repetition. On school variables the availability of internet is highly correlating with students achievements. Generally regions performed badly in Reading than in Math. In contrast the urban coefficient was more significant in Reading than in Math. Key words: Primary education, grade, variables, student achievement, SACMEQ, Zimbabwe.
