A Doctor’s Decision Problem under Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) and Fee-For Services : Considering Honesty and Ability

초록/요약

This thesis aims to observe the effect of Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) on the utility of a patient compared to fee-for services. The criteria for the comparison comprise the medical expenditure and the quality of medical care. I introduced honesty of a doctor to observe over-treatment and considered the difference in ability among doctors. Briefly pointing out the possible problem when DRG is implemented by the average payment of the past, I discussed an alternative optimal fee for case payment system. DRG has the effect of reliably reducing the cost of medical care. However, it should be noted that the direction of the medical practice can be determined according to the amount of payment and preventive measures should be taken to preclude adverse reactions.
