본 연구의 목적은 여성 시니어의 삶과 그들의 문화에 대한 새로운 패러다임을 제시하는 데에 있다. 연구 대상은 텔레비전 드라마 <디어 마이 프렌즈>에 등장하는 여성 시니어 캐릭터이다. <디어 마이 프렌즈>는 여성 시니어의 개성적이고 독립적인 캐릭터를 담고 있으며, 그동안 간과했던 여성 시니어 모습을 전면에 내세웠다. 연구 방법은 카를 구스타프 융의 개성화 과정을 적용하여 <디어 마이 프렌즈>의 여성 시니어 캐릭터를 분석하였다. 개성화 과정으로서 드라마 캐릭터를 분석하는 것은 드라마 캐릭터 이해뿐만 아니라 드라마가 담고 있는 메시지, 그리고 연출된 장면에 대한 이해, 나아가 이면에 담긴 사회문화적 요소를 읽어낼 수 있는 유용한 방법이 될 수 있다. 드라마 캐릭터는 자신의 욕망을 향해 극복하고 나아가는 과정을 그리고 있으며, 개성화 과정은 이러한 개인의 ‘목적 있는 행동’을 분석하는 작업이라 할 수 있다. 텔레비전 드라마는 지배이데올로기에서 자유롭기 쉽지 않지만, <디어 마이 프렌즈>는 다양성과 시청자와의 긴장관계를 위해 여성 시니어를 전면에 내세우고, 그들의 적극적이고 진취적인 태도에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시한다고 할 수 있다. 무관심한 시니어에 대한 인식을 지적하고, 특히 성역할을 바라보는 태도에서 나타나는 여성 시니어에 대한 차별적인 편견을 거부한다. 이는 기존의 텔레비전 드라마에 담긴 여성 시니어에 대한 이데올로기를 탈피한 혁신적인 의의를 갖는다. <디어 마이 프렌즈>의 여성 시니어 캐릭터는 다음과 같은 태도를 갖는다. 첫째, 가부장제를 탈피한 자발적 독립을 시도한다. 시니어 여성은 인생의 초·중년기를 지나 황혼기에도 여전히 유효한 지배이데올로기에서 벗어나고자 한다. 둘째, 강요된 모성에 대해 거부하는 모습을 보이는데, 온전히 ‘나’를 위해 자녀와의 분리를 감행하는 것에서 알 수 있다. 셋째, 결혼을 하지 않거나, 혹은 이혼 후에 독립적인 여성으로서 살아가는 강인한 여성 시니어의 모습을 보여준다. 이들은 성숙한 태도로 지혜롭게 사랑을 승화하는 어른의 태도를 그린다. 본고는 지금까지 한국사회의 가부장적 이데올로기로 드러나지 않았던 여성 시니어의 독립성, 자율성, 능동성, 주체성 등을 발견하였다. 이를 통해 여성 시니어에 대한 이해와 더불어, 여성 시니어 문화에 대한 재인식을 제안하는 바이다. 융의 개성화 과정으로서 드라마 캐릭터를 읽는 것은 캐릭터의 표면적인 모습을 읽는 것에 그치지 않고, 대사와 행동을 통해 그 심연을 읽는 작업이다. 나아가 드라마 속 연출된 장치에 대한 깊이 있는 해석이 가능하고 그 의미전달이 결코 단조롭지 않다. 이는 개인무의식을 통해 집단무의식에 담긴 원형을 살피는 것이기 때문이다.

The purpose of this study is to present the lives of a senior woman’s life and a new paradigm for their lives. The subject of study is a female senior character appearing in the TV drama Dear My Friends. By containing a story of a female senior personality who is unique and independent, the drama portrays as its main character someone who has been overlooked. For the research method, Carl Jung's individuation process was used to analyze the female senior character of in Dear My Friends. Analyzing the drama character using the individuation process can be a useful way to understand not only the drama’s character, but also the message that the drama conveys, the production methods used in a scene, and the socio-cultural elements that the drama tries to address. The drama character is in the process of overcoming her own desires, and the individualization process is the analysis of the 'purposeful action' of the character. Although it is not easy for a TV drama to be free from the dominant ideology, for the diversification of viewpoints and tension between viewers, Dear My Friends addresses the female seniority and provides a new perspective on the senior women’s active aggressive attitude. It points out that the general public do not give enough attention to seniors, and rejects making any discrimination against female seniors about their gender roles. Therefore, the drama has revolutionized the ideology of female seniors in TV dramas. The female senior character from Dear My Friends has the following characteristics. First, she tries on her own to be independent and free herself from patriarchy. Even in her old age, the senior woman attempts to defy the dominant ideology. Second, she rejects forced motherhood, and this is because she refuses to let a child shape her identity. Third, the senior women in the drama are either unmarried or living independently after divorce. This shows that these women are mature adults who transcend love. This paper has found the independence, autonomy, activeness, and subjectivity of female senior which have not been revealed as part the patriarchal ideology of Korean society. Through this, in addition to understanding women 's seniority, the study suggests a reconsideration for the culture of senior women. The application of Jung’s individuation process allows for studying beyond the superficial viewing of a character from a drama and requires a process of interpreting the hardship that a character encounters by studying the character’s actions and conversations. Furthermore, it is possible to devise meaningful interpretations about the devices that the director uses in the drama, and their meanings would not simple. That is because interpretation requires discovering about an individual’s unconsciousness by studying the archetype portrayed by the collective unconsciousness.
