Effect of accelerated thermal aging on mechanical, electrical properties and long-term life time of EEA/LDPE/CNT composite

초록/요약

In this study, the effect of accelerated thermal aging time on mechanical and electrical properties of low density poly ethylene (LDPE) /poly(ethylene-co-ethyl acrylate) (EEA) composites filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) used for semi-conductive layer in power cable were studied. The accelerated thermal aging tests were conducted under continuous stress conditions of 140 °C using samples of compounded EEA, EEA / LDPE composites. As the thermal cycle increased, the tensile strength and elongation of EEA/LDPE composites were continually decreased. The volume resistivity also decreased with increasing thermal aging time due to chain scission and the decrease of chain mobility by thermal oxidation. The prediction of long-term life time of EEA/LDPE composites was calculated by Arrhenius model. In addition, the life time equation of EEA/LDPE composite was suggested in order to estimate the failure time at various operating temperature. In addition, the degradation mechanism and the respective composites were compared using spectral characteristics.
