초록/요약
As the number of immigrants and multicultural families in Korea has inclined for the past two decades, Korea is now growing in population of foreigners and multi-raced children. Although the population of the multicultural families had increased for the past years, the standard of living did not enhance as much. Children of these families are underprivileged, most faced with inequality. There is also an increase in the number of children living under poverty, which makes them even more vulnerable. Previous researchers had found that children of the multicultural families face problems such as adjustment to the Korean language and culture, struggle of being accepted, especially the hardship of psychological exclusion from the society. This thesis researches upon some of the determinants to child poverty within multicultural families in Korea. After conducting a survey around Korea from March to August of 2016, both online and offline, 124 samples were taken for the dataset. Many factors such as parents‟ education level, ability of Korean language, cultural aspects, and so on were taken into consideration in order to measure different aspects to child poverty. In particular, this thesis looks at child‟s health problems, child‟s education attendance, child‟s social relations, and child‟s digital access. Interestingly, mother‟s final level of education, ability of Korean language, and cultural background of social inclusion played a significant impact on multiple dimensions of child poverty.
