The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between basic psychological needs and motivation to mentor. In addition, this study focuses on the mediating effect of work engagement on the relationship that exists between basic psychological needs and motivation to mentor. The survey polled employees working in small and mid-sized enterprises in Korea. SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 21.0 are used to analyze the data collected. The results of this study demonstrate that work engagement has a positively mediating effect on the relationship between basic psychological needs and motivation to mentor. To be more specific, work engagement has a full mediating effect. This study has both theoretical and practical implications and identifies the structural relationship and mediating effect on the relationship between basic psychological needs and motivation to mentor. Moreover, it represents the mechanism to increase motivation to mentor with basic psychological needs and work engagement. Lastly, it also highlights the importance of basic psychological needs and work engagement at the workplace.
