This study investigates the relationship between firm-level inward foreign direct investment (FDI) and innovation performance and productivity using novel Korean manufacturing firm level data from the Korean Innovation Survey for the period 2002 to 2009. This study distinguishes between the effects of inward FDI on firm innovation and efficiency: while FDI inflow into Korean manufacturing firms is negatively associated with their innovation performance, such as patent applications and product innovation, inward FDI has a positive effect on the labor productivity of these firms.
