초록/요약
The purpose of the current study was to examine the actor and partner effect of psychological separation from parents on romantic relationship satisfaction and the mediating role of ego-identity in the relation between psychological separation and relationship satisfaction of oneself and partner focusing on young adulthood couples who are unmarried. To identify these effects simultaneously, Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) using structural equation modeling was applied on a sample of 128 college and graduate student couples from South Korea. As a result, psychological separation related to both father and mother, ego-identity, and romantic relationship satisfaction were all positively correlated in case of male students, whereas, there were no significant correlation between female students’ psychological separation and relationship satisfaction. Then, all actor effects of psychological separation from parents and romantic relationship satisfaction with the mediating role of ego-identity were identified. Except for separation level from father in case of male which was reported as partial mediation, there were full mediating effects of ego-identity in the relationship between psychological separation from parents and romantic relationship satisfaction. Furthermore, a male student’s psychological separation from mother had a positive partner effect on a female student’s romantic relationship satisfaction through mediation of ego-identity. However, neither psychological separation nor ego-identity of female students had partner effect on their counterparts, male students. All identified indirect effects of ego-identity were proved to be significant by the results of bootstrapping methods. Those results of this study suggests the role of ego-identity is important for psychological separation from parents to affect couple’s relationship satisfaction. Also, in order to hold their love relationship happily, they need to be independent with their parents and also establish the status of ego-identity well through enduring enough exploration. Lastly, counselors can apply these results when they meet clients who have difficulty in the romantic relationships by focusing on parent-child relationships and ego-identity.
