초록/요약
This study aims to supplement the growing number of research that looks at childhood domestic violence experienced by Filipino young adults and to determine a causal relationship between past incidents of physical violence and the current state of well-being of those subjected to such experiences. A survey was conducted on 155 young adults (83 females, 72 males) ages 18 to 24 years old living in Quezon City, Philippines. The questionnaire explored the forms of discipline that were implemented to the young adults as a child. The results of this study show that a very thin line separates corporal punishment from physical abuse. More so, multivariate regression analyses support that experiences of childhood violence have negative consequences across the lifespan, such as worse mental health and lower life satisfaction in the later years. This study therefore calls for the enactment of a law that prohibits the use of all forms of corporal punishment by parents, caretakers, and other adults, the frequent inspection at the local level of the implementation of national policies that address child maltreatment, as well as the continuous cooperation and collaborative action of the different actors involved in the protection of children and the management of child abuse cases.
