Multicultural Family in the Republic of Korea: : Improving the Lifestyle for Multicultural Families

초록/요약

Abstract Recently in the Republic of Korea, immigrants from different countries are increasing rapidly. (Lee 2011). The Republic of Korea is turning into a multicultural nation from a racially homogeneous nation. The government strives to provide the necessary support system to these multicultural families, but still there seems to be some problems and gaps in what the government offer and what the multicultural families actually need. This thesis will present the mismatch between the support provided by the government and the actual problems and needs of multicultural families. This study will also present possible solutions to bridge the gap and address the needs of the multicultural families living in Korea. It is of utmost importance that the government makes an effort to improve the quality of services provided by these centers. Furthermore make them accessible to multicultural families, it is not enough to just to increase the number of support centers. The Republic of Korea has indeed made a lot of progress in addressing the needs of multicultural families to create a stronger and more prosperous nation. However, there are still specific issues that have to be addressed like discrimination, lack of proper work and education opportunities and lack of relevant support system for multicultural families. There are still a lot of possibilities for improvement at this point and the initiative for change can come not only from the government but also from individuals or NGOs –non government organizations. It is true that there are lots of non-registrants and illegal workers. The government tends to exclude them from Korean society, but they still exist and they may also have children born in Korea. Time cannot resolve the problems and issues of multicultural families. Necessary action has to be taken now to ensure the better future of everyone in the Korean society including those who come from multicultural families.
