Objectives : This paper identifies middle school students' usage of the health clinic and the changing patterns of usage to analyse epidemiological features of diseases. Methods : I analyzed the health clinic records from 2009 to 2011 of one middle school in GyeongGi-Do. I identified the relevance of epidemiological variables; sex, grade, disease, month, day and year. I analyzed the number of students who used the health clinic according to the year, sex, grade and disease and the Chi-square test for homogeneity was used to confirm whether the uses of the health clinic were the same each year. The Chi-square test for trend was used to analyse the change of trend according to the grade. The number of applications of safe deductions were analyzed to identify the number of accidents according to the injury, and Fisher's exact test was used for a significance test. Results : A total of 88.2% used the health clinic in 3 years, the majority of whom used it once. Although its use by boys decreased, the total number who used the clinic increased. The utilization rate was highest in the first grade and the frequency of utilization was highest in the second grade. The health clinic was used quite often in June and September, but it was barely used in July and August in 2009 and 2011 even though utilization density was high. It was used most often on Mondays. In contrast, it was barely used on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Considering detailed symptoms, the percentage and the frequency of use were high among boys who suffered injury. Girls attended the health clinic most often due to injury, followed by colic and colds. In the trend analysis of disease according to grade, the highest cause was that of skin trouble among boys. Out of 40 cases to which the safe deduction was applied, 29 occurred with boys who suffered fractures, 22 (over 50%) of which were joint sprains. In the first grade, most accidents occurred in March. Conclusion : In this study, various illnesses/problems such as injury and abdominal pain of middle school students, correlated with the high frequency of use of the health clinic was confirmed. We should make an effective school health plan according to the characteristics of schools in order to make students able to cope with a variety of ailments that can happen. As most of these accidents occur among boys and are the result of the student’s own carelessness, appropriate measures should be taken for the prevention of future accidents.
