Design and fabrication of flexible organic photo sensors

초록/요약

Flexible large-area electronics using various materials have had considerable attention among scientists studying on the optoelectronic applications. Since the conventional approach is based on rigid silicon and glass substrates, it is difficult to achieve large-area, low-cost, light-weight compatibility with plastic substrates. To realize the flexible optoelectronics, the organic semiconductors with photo conductive polymers are used on plastic substrate. And, the photo response characteristics need to be considered for integrated circuits that have driving parts to control the light source and electrical losses. Moreover, the electrical characteristics when photo sensors are integrated into thin film transistors or hybrid organic/inorganic devices still remain to be studied. Also, the quantitative understanding of the electrical operation is necessary in order to enable the optimal design of organic photo sensors for flexible electronics. From these considerations, photo response characteristics in integrated organic photo sensors with thin film transistors on plastic substrate are investigated. For the organic photo sensor cells the P3HT/PCBM (poly(3-hexylethiophene)/phenyl-C61-butryic acid methyl ester) blend is used. And the electrical performance of integrated devices with thin film transistor is compared in case that the organic semiconductor of pentacene and inorganic semiconductor of a-IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) are used as an active material of thin film transistors. In addition, the organic photo sensors are improved in the aspect of integration into silicon substrate using silicon transfer process on plastic substrate. To achieve the microstructure design of the organic/silicon photo sensors, the schottky diode is introduced in the low temperature process. And the photo response characteristics of organic photo sensors show good performance. Lastly, we note that this thesis of doctor degree includes contents from the 3 kinds of SCI papers, which are two of applied physics letter and a sensor and actuators B.
