초록/요약
As globalization in Higher Education has been proliferated, international student mobility is used as one of the important index to present the level of globalization. Although going to English-using countries is huge trend among international students, regional mobility occurs at a higher rate than global mobility. Based on current situation, the purpose of this study was understanding motivations and experiences of exchange student participants of A University who have experienced China or Japan. There are four points in finidings of the study. First, students usually consider their personal characteristics and factors rather than considering external factors. Second, There were many various factors which have influenced on choosing country and university. Some were correspond with former factors from previous studies, but others were totally different. Third, students have experienced many kinds of events and hardships regarding the country, the university, and their personal characteristics. However, there were some common points among them which they had suffered from uncooperative attitudes of university staffs, immature services. Fourth, students outcomes are also varied in individual’s effort and local situation, but students pointed out some meaningful points which can be improved by technical support. Conclusions drawn by the findings are: (a) there is growing trend that students select regional destinations other than English speaking country, but it is still dependent on situational background(e.g. majors related to China or Japan), (b) language learning is the biggest purpose among students, other purposes are not powerful enough to attract students who are not directly related to Chinese or Japanese major, (c) the core purpose of exchange program should be crystallized, and also should strengthen purposes other than language learning, (d) students suffer from difficulties especially related to administrative process, and countermeasure should be provided.
