This thesis investigates the English speaking anxiety causes of Korean university learners in EFL context concerning the relationship of speaking anxiety with other variables in terms of L2 English speaking anxiety, L2 motivation, cultural identity-related fear, parental influence, L1 communication apprehension, personality in association with research questions: 1) What are the most significant contributing factors of English speaking anxiety for learners in Korea? 2) Are there differences between students with high English proficiency and low English proficiency? To seek the result for the research questions, the data is collected from 220 Korean EFL university students by the questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to investigate the causes of the anxiety in English speaking and required 220 university students to circle the 31 questions with 5-point Likert scale using questionnaire. Thus, this study provides that English speaking anxiety is primarily provoked by the L1 communication apprehension and personality factors and obvious differences with respect to parental influence in comparison between high proficiency and low proficiency. On the basis of this result, I hope this present study will not only help the understanding the causes of English speaking anxiety of university students learning English at EFL context, but also contribute to English education.
