초록/요약
Cambodia joined ASEAN in 1999 and has taken part more actively in the region and the world as distinguished from before 1993 which it was communist country. Since the establishment of the new government in 1993, Cambodia with the support from the international community embarked on comprehensive reforms in order to rehabilitate and reconstruct the nation whose ultimate goal is to alleviate poverty. The major objective of this study is to explore and analyze the economic impacts of AFTA on Cambodia by analyzing the current situation of Cambodian economy and that of member states especially focusing on comparative advantage that Cambodia should stress upon to maximize its benefit from AFTA. The study puts forward some recommendations for policy makers in the field of regional integration. This study will also describe the status and characteristics of the Cambodian economy, the responding policies and strategies of the government. At the same time, this thesis pays substantially attention on the lessons from other regional blocs and countries, and how Cambodia learns to get benefits from AFTA. Secondary data gathered from various sources are fundamental information to analyze the doubt of challenges and opportunities of joining AFTA. These sources include different published books and periodicals, ASEAN official documents, and research papers. Data time frame had been used is mostly after 1999 which is the year of Cambodia entering ASEAN which available data are collected by government, NGOs and giant institutions.
