Globally threatening environmental issues brought movements to shift a paradigm of development in the world. Through improving sustainability, the world seeks a sustainable future. Transitioning to a new paradigm requires a change in mind and behaviors, which can be bolstered by educational efforts. Despite critical views on education for sustainable development (ESD), the positive outcomes of ESD are so significant that ESD has been implemented with the support of the United Nations. Recognizing the importance of ESD, Kenya has also strived to reinforce their educational sector towards ESD. Kenya has achieved some positive results, but more efforts are needed to enhance the quality of education. Currently, their teacher training does not show any progress. Considering teachers are key players in the educational sector, the quality of teachers should be improved first. Thus, to enhance the quality of education and sustainability in Kenya, this paper focuses on the country’s teacher training and provides recommendations towards that end. A transition from the conventional model of teacher training towards a competency-based training is promoted. As well, information and communication technologies in the teacher training curriculum and the encouragement of inter-sectoral and intra-sectoral networking in teacher training should be embraced.
