Multiple Dimension of the U.S. Human Rights Diplomacy toward North Korea

This research was initiated by the attention on the issue of North Korean human rights. In the context of politicization and internationalization of North Korean human rights issue, it is found that North Korean human rights issue is closely related to political and security issues; juxtaposition of North Korean nuclear issue and human rights issue shows periodical similarity. The United States is a major actor of North Korean nuclear negotiation and in the process of internationalization of North Korean human rights issue. In the context of the U.S. human rights diplomacy (foreign policy), the U.S. human rights diplomacy often appears to be subordinated to security or economic interest related issues, and the U.S. tends to follow its own state security and interest rather than other states’ human rights.
