초록/요약
Three-dimensional mesoprous materials have attracted much attention over the last decade due to their wide range of applications ranging from catalyst support to hydrogen storage. Fuel Cell has been receiving enormous attention as future energy source for a range of applications in low/zero-emission electric vehicles, distributed home power generators, and as a power source for small portable electronic devices due to their high power density, relatively quick startup, rapid response to varying metal loading, and relatively low operating temperatures. For fuel cell, catalyst support is one of the most important factors to synthesis the metal supported catalyst. Therefore, numerous works have been done to develop a stable supporting material. A three dimensionally ordered composite consisting of monodisperse polystyrene spheres and Ludox-TM 40 silica was prepared by an evaporation process of suspensions containing PS spheres and Ludox-TM silica in water. A simple approach has been reported to control the open and close mesoporous by varying the slight change in the synthetic route. As synthesized mesoporous materials were used as cathode in the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). The multimodal open porous carbon was obtained by carbonization after removal of the PS spheres, whereas multimodal close porous obtained by carbonization without removal of PS spheres. During the synthesis of close porous multimodal carbon, the PS spheres were acted as the carbon precursor covered in silica composite. A facile synthesis of multimodal porous carbons with tunable open and close mesopores morphology was effectively applied as a cathode catalyst support in proton exchange membrane fuel cell.
