초록/요약
After five-year buffer-period since China has joined WTO, the Chinese banking industry is on a new start. In the view of foreign banks are able to completely enter China from 2007, a war in the Chinese banking market between foreign and domestic banks is inevitable. Under such circumstances, it is meaningful to do some research on multinational banks’ activities in China. This thesis aims to analyze motivations and macroeconomic effect of MNBs’ entry to China, and our main ideas and arguments are as followings: First, initially, following their clients, Multinational banks (MNBs) enter into China. To conduct transaction of its know-how products and seek scale economy and economies of scope, MNBs internalize its know-how products and start to expand their businesses in the Chinese market. FDI, trade and interest spread, such internalized core factors can explain motivations of MNB’s investment in China. Second, MNB’s entry may exert significant impact on China's financial syetem. In the short term, MNB’s entry will bring about several unfavorable factors, such as interference with central bank’s monetary policy of China and excessive introduction of foreign capital. However,in the long run, it would act as a stimulus to China's financial stability, promote financial innovation and increase efficiency of resource allocation in China. Finally, based on our study, we give suggestions that Chinese government speed up reform and opening of banking market, break monopoly and establish a competitive market and modern banking system; the regulatory authorities should develop effective monitoring measures to ease the negative impact caused by MNB’s entry and protect its banking sector.
