The world economy has been changing rapidly. New businesses are a driving engine of the world economic growth, and declining industries always make the industrial environment more dynamic and more competitive. The same is true for a LCD industry. The LCD industry is a growing industry as well as a very competitive market. The LCD industry has many intriguing features. It creates a very competitive environment resulting from a suppliers-leading industry, builds high barriers to entry, has a unique business cycle, serves price-sensitive consumers, competes with many formidable rival substitutes, and huge market potential in a LCD TV market. In this unattractive industry, two Korean players such as Samsung Electronics and LG.Philips LCD have been outperforming over other suppliers. The First-mover advantage, huge investment on the next-generation production fabrications and volume production have been key factors of success in PC monitors’ market. All the suppliers in the industry are paying attention to a TV market served by CRT TVs. To take the lead in the upcoming LCD TV market, the Korean players must fully utilize their resources and core capabilities, minimizing risk factors. That is why it is essential to formulate strategy formation based on the core capabilities of the Korean manufacturers.
