Making Korea the Logistics Hub in Northeast Asia

As the global competition is increasingly intensified, Korea as many others countries should adopt a national survival strategy in the 21th century. The Korean government launched a strategy to establish Korea as a Northeast Asian Logistics Hub. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a feasibility study of this national strategy of Korea. Starting with a discussion of basic concepts of logistics hub, this paper assesses Korea’s potentials and weaknesses to become a logistics hub. Before conclusions are drawn, this paper attempts to compose Korea’s case with those of the Netherlands and Singapore. This paper adopted the SWOT approach as the main analytical scheme, and concluded that improving a particular international city or region and developing transport networks are prerequisite for a successful implementation of Korea’s national strategy. Thus, the paper proposes concrete measures focused on air transport, maritime transport and road and railway networks.
