The inverted planar monopole antenna with double shorting plates is proposed to reduce monopole antenna size. The proposed antenna consists of inverted planar monopole with double shorting plates and a feed network based on T-divider under a ground plane. Vertical feed line is used in order to generate a pure vertical current distribution on the structure and to avoid horizontal current to generating degradation the polarization properties and the impedance bandwidth performance. The total height of the inverted monopole is 50 mm and width is 65 mm. The size reduction compared with the other planar monopole antenna covered the same lowest frequency is about 40 % without significant degradation of antenna performance. Beveling technique and double shorting plates are used to achieve increasing the impedance bandwidth. Double shorting plates are for symmetric radiation pattern. This inverted planar monopole antenna with double shorting plates provides a 3.55:1 impedance bandwidth (for VSWR<2). The measured gains achieve 2.65 dBi, 3.65 dBi and 5.48 dBi at 0.8, 1.8 and 2.4 GHz, respectively.
