The purpose of the study is to present a methodology based on Signal Detection Theory(SDT) in Design and evaluation of products. A Signal Detection Model has been effectively used to understand the process of information retrieval. So it can be used as a theoretical background for modeling the process of human's information retrieval. In application of SDT, we elicited probabilistic values for each SDT result. These were based on behavioral for the menu selection of subjects in the task performance process. The case of the study was a mobile phone. And each alternative measure of sensitivity, P(A) was calculated with probabilistic values. Modified menu structure was higher than existed menu structure in terms of sensitivity. As an experimental result, sensitivity was increased from 0.69 of P(A) to 0.87. Also, performance time and the number of keypresses were improved in modified menu structure. Sensitivity of SDT not only reflects a criterion of user's familiarization for menu structure of products, but also user's performance. In the design and evaluation of system menu structures, SDT was proven to be superior than existed methods for performance evaluation in terms of time and cost efficiency. Therefore, this study presents that SDT could be used as a methodology to design and evaluate the user-centered menu structure in relative to human's perceived information structure.
