Effects given by an addition of glass on the low-temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of ZnNb2O6 or ZnNb2O6-TiO2 ceramic were studied to develop the middle-permittivity dielectric composition that can be used for a functional substrate of low-temperature co-fired ceramics. When 10∼25 wt% of the high-borosilicate glass was added to ZnNb2O6 or ZnNb2O6-TiO2 ceramics, the sintering temperature decreased from 875oC to 1150oC. In case of the ZnNb2O6-TiO2 ceramic, a complete phase change of (Zn0.15Nb0.30Ti0.55)O2 and CaNb2O6. Microstructural features and phased changes according to the glass contents and sintering temperature were analyzed by using XRD, SEM, and EPMA. Especially, the ZnNb2O6-TiO2 ceramics sintered at 875oC with 20 wt% glass had a relative sintering density of 97% and good dielectric properties: relative dielectric constant, εr = 19.1; quality factor, Qxf = 9600 GHz; and tempertature coefficient of resonant frequency, τf = 9 ppm/oC. The relationship between the glass content and dielectric properties was discussed.
