As research laboratory and company deal with a huge amount of heterogeneous data with the wide spread of internet, it becomes more difficult to retrieve the necessary data distributed across the remote resources interconnected by network. However the previous work does not provide the proper solution which addresses the above problem on heterogeneous database environment. In this thesis, we present a Grid Enabled Distributed Query System (GEDQS) which supports the transparent and fast query processing based on data and computational grids. The use of Storage Resource Broker (SRB) offered on data grid allows users to perform easily-to-use and transparent retrieval of data by providing the unified interface for the heterogeneous database. Moreover the exploitation of Distributed Query Processor (DQP) enables the faster processing of complex queries on distributed query resources, by making use of grid services such as Meta Directory Service (MDS), GridFTP, Grid Resource and Access Management (GRAM) provided by computational grid.
