Cross-roll rolling in AA 5052 sheets was carried out using a rolling mill in which the roll axis is tilted by 7.5° towards the transverse direction of the rolled sample. Parallel to cross-roll rolling, normal-rolling using a conventional rolling mill was also carried out in the same rolling schedule for clarifying the effect of cross-roll rolling. The evolution of strain states during cross-roll rolling was investigated by texture measurements and the three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) simulation. Cross-roll rolling gives rise to the operation of all three shear component ε´_(12), ε´_(13) and ε´_(23) in a roll gap. The operation of complex shear components during cross-roll rolling strongly reduces intensities of the deformation texture components.
